KUWAIT GALLERY

FOR FINE ARTS

The Kuwait Gallery for Fine Arts is considered one of the landmarks of modern Kuwait. For more than three decades now, this gallery has been the dream of the art family in the country. Since its creation in 1967, the Kuwait Society for Formative Arts has sought for the realization of the gallery, to be one of its objectives. Through sponsorship and kind care to the plastic art movement by H.H. the Amir and H.H. Crown Prince - May Allah preserve them - this edifice was established, as they believed that progress of nations is based on culture and arts.

From the earliest days, KSPA has directed its activities, locally and aboard, to reflect the Civilized face of Kuwait, and to achieve our people's aims through intensive contributions to widen the artistic and cultural consciousness, an aim which can be achieved by the establishment of this facility with its art galleries.

As a proof of the high standing of the name "Kuwait" in their hearts, the Kuwaiti plastic artists, gave the building its name "Kuwait Gallery For Fine Arts", which is built according to the wonderful Arab Islamic style.

The gallery occupies an area of 1000 square meters, and is made into two stories.

The ground floor

Consisting in two halls, A and B, they are meant to be varied in area according to exhibition sizes, Both of the two halls are supplied with the best lighting systems and hanging installations, in addition to the mobile partitions. They have the capacity of holding more than 150 works of art, and even up to 200 works in case of collective exhibitions. By virtue of this design, two separate exhibitions (A.B) can be held simultaneously. When needed, the gallery can also host a large audience of any cultural or artistic events.

The Upper floor

Is made to serve as management offices of the directors, the secretariat where files and records of data about local and foreign plastic art activities, records of the Kuwaiti member artists, correspondence, lectures and conference of Arab and international unions.

Kuwait Contemporary Art Museum

In addition to the above mentioned uses, and during periods of seasonal suspension to the artistic activities in the country - a vacation extending from 15/6 - 15/9 every year-and the month of the Holy Ramadan, the two halls can be used as a museum holding the Kuwait contemporary art.

Remarkable and valuable works in the KSFA and other possessions by the Society are exhibited here. Citizens and foreign visitors can witness these works in the morning and afternoon periods everyday, except on holiday. A program is duly scheduled in coordination with the ministries and governmental institutions for the convenience of guest officials in the state of Kuwait.

The annex

Building the new Kuwait gallery For Fine Arts made feasible for the Society for formative Arts to utilize the annexed old building, which had been used as management offices. This annex occupies an area of 600 square meters, consisting in a large reception hall, which can as well serve as an exhibition gallery for members of the society, holding symposia and accidental individual exhibitions.

The annex contains an art library and an international hall for encouraging the members to stay there, where they can be amused and fill in their free time in individual dialogues about art or discuss the Kuwait artists affairs, their wishes, aspirations and needs.

The directive board has arranged to make part of the annex a school of fine arts where art courses for interested amateur persons can be organized in addition to the exercise of art work. The establishment of the Kuwait Gallery For Fine Arts has brought in the desired benefits to all plastic in Kuwait, and to all people who are interested in or like and culture.
