KUWAIT SOCIETY FOR FORMATIVE ARTS

The Kuwait Society for Formative Arts had been created on 1/4/1967 as a non-profit making institution for both professional and amateur artists of Kuwait. Yet its creation had been published in the official newspaper issue No. (664) On Sunday 13th Dhu - Al-Qa'dah 1387 corresponding to 11th February 1968 as follows:

The "Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs announces the creation of the Kuwait Society For Formative Arts" in Kuwait under article No. (49) Public utility societies and clubs.

The Society's aims according to the resolution are summarized thereunder:

• Sponsoring art activity in Kuwait, developing it, and directing it towards serving society and improving its artistic consciousness.
• Standing up for the formative art in the state of Kuwait, upholding and sponsoring the formative artists as well as encouraging the Kuwait Youths artists.
• Representing the State of Kuwait in respect of the formative art activities and conferences nationwide and worldwide.
• Strengthening the bonds among members of the Society and other societies both nationwide and worldwide. Hence, to accomplish the above mentioned objectives, the Society adopted the following items:
  • Holding lectures and symposia on art.
  • Issuing an explained magazine specialized in the art and artists affairs so as to acquaint every body with the Society's activities.
  • Inviting other artists from abroad for holding their exhibitions in Kuwait.
  • Assisting its members through holding Art Exhibitions for their works both inside and outside Kuwait.
  • Encouraging youth and amateur artists through taking care of their works.
  • Rewarding the brilliant artists in the Society exhibitions.

Moreover, this Society had been established as a result of the Kuwaiti formative artists yearning for an art assembly to organize and fully the formative art-practices in Kuwait so as to satisfy the potential needs of artists for creating a contemporary art movement able to stand side by side with its similar movements in the Arab world and all over the world.
